London vs. Cambridge Minor Midget Scouting Report

London and Cambridge faced off on September 15, 2016 at Galt Arena Gardens in Cambridge,Ontario. London took the win in the Minor Midget – Alliance game, 6 to 2. Below is the game report.

Forwards

Brett Budgell #7 (L, London Knights, 2001) B+  Smooth skating center/winger has been a nice addition to London this year.  Plays well in both ends of the ice.  Scored one and set up two powerplay goals in the game vs Cambridge.  Hockey IQ and passing ability were shown on the two powerplay goals as Brett quarterbacked the PP and set up a number of dangerous scoring chances.  Brett is a power forward with hands, approx. 6 feet tall and moves very well for a big player.  Brett’s goal in the game was a highlight reel goal as he drove wide on the D and beat the goalie with a shot on the glove side.

Luke Drewitt (L, London Knights, 2001) B  Impressed with his play making abilities, puck pursuit in the offensive zone, and physical presence on the fore-check.  Luke’s second goal of the game was a shorthanded gem as he disrupted the breakout, knocked the Cambridge player off the puck in the neutral zone and ripped a wrist shot top shelf.  Luke is a tall, lanky winger, 6+ feet tall and works well with line mates Ryan Suzuki, and Peter Fleming.

Jeffrey Burridge (A-), Aiden Preuter (A-), and Ryan Suzuki (A-) were not as dominant as games seen in the Titans tournament.  Liam VanLoon (B), was among the fastest players on the ice and generated a number of opportunities for London when he had time and space – his speed alone may offer him the chance to move up.

Ryan Campbell (A-) – first half of the game Ryan was the most dominant on the ice.  He and linemate, David Anderson (A-), were all over the ice causing trouble for the London backend.  The game was 2-0 Cambridge until Cambridge ran into penalty trouble.  David Anderson ran into discipline problems and took two costly penalties.  Tyler Cress (B-) and Nathan Yeck (B) showed very well in spots through the game but had moments where they were unable to get much going against the London back pressure.  Anderson’s frustrations will cause him problems if it isn’t adjusted rating changing to (B+ from A-)

Defense

Mason Millman (L, London Knights, 2001) B – Impressed with his size and speed.  Tall lanky defensive defenseman (6+ feet tall) who skates well, is mobile, and is quick enough to jump into the offensive play.  Mason plays a tight gap through the neutral zone and was able to shut down the Cambridge attack the second half of the game and frustrate some of the Cambridge forwards.  Mason has the ability to increase his overall rating if he is able to develop his offensive play.

Mason Howard (A-) played a solid defensive game, very physical and was effective in the second half of the game at shutting down the Cambridge offense.

Mark Cooper (B) played an effective game offensively and distributed the puck very well on the attack.  Defensively he was fine and needs to improve vs the speedy London offense.  Jagger O’Toole (B) and Colin O’Hagan (B-) were both very effective defensively and limited London scoring chances early in the game.  If O’Toole can limit his penalties he has the potential to move up in rating.  He took two in the game.  If O’Hagan can play consistently at the level shown against London he has the potential to improve his rating.
