Chelmsford Tops Bishop Fenwick 6-1

Chelmsford, MA – Thanks to the magic of LiveBarn we were able to take in a Wednesday matchup between the Chelmsford Lions and the Bishop Fenwick Crusaders from the Chelmsford Forum.

During the first period, it was a very back-and-forth defensive first five minutes as both teams were limiting chances but not creating much off the rush offensively. With 10:18 left in the first, Chelmsford took a penalty for interference. During this penalty, Bishop Fenwick did a good job of controlling the puck in the offensive zone but didn’t really have any Grade A scoring chances and Chelmsford killed it off. Four minutes later Chelmsford took another penalty, this time for tripping, and it was more of the same as Bishop Fenwick controlled the puck in the offensive zone for a majority of the power play. The Crusaders took tons of perimeter shots but had nothing to show for it and Chelmsford killed it off again. Finally, with 4:30 left, Chelmsford broke the ice with its first goal on a nice rebound finish from senior forward AJ Bongiorno assisted by junior forward David Wood. About two minutes later with 2:09 left in the period, junior forward Kaiden Bellville scored another for Chelmsford to double the lead, assisted by Wood for his 2nd assist. To add to this barrage of goals by the Lions, with just one second left in the period sophomore forward Declan Crowley scored to make it 3-0 and close out the period.

In the second frame, Chelmsford continued to put pressure on as they scored another goal early with 14:02 left but it was called off for goaltender interference. Chelmsford struck again with 9:54 left to make it 4-0 with a beautiful power play goal by Bongiorno who made a great move to cut inside the defender and finish with a quick shot to score his second of the night assisted by senior D TK Ervin.  Soon after the goal, Chelmsford killed off yet another penalty with some help from their goalie who turned aside a couple of chances to keep Bishop Fenwick scoreless halfway through the period. Each team was unsuccessful on the power play midway through the second as Bishop Fenwick killed off one of their own soon after. Although, about 30 seconds after the penalty ended, Chelmsford scored again to make it 5-0 with a nice goal from sophomore forward Jack Keyo from Bellville and sophomore forward Matthew Hall with 5:15 left. Bishop Fenwick would score their first less than a minute later to make it 5-1 with 4:22 left on a goal by senior striker Manny Alvarez-Segee. The Crusaders had another chance on the power play right after, but Chelmsford was able to kill it off. With a minute left, Bishop Fenwick took another penalty and that meant Chelmsford would start the third with a 1-minute power play.

In the final period of the game, Chelmsford was shut out for the remainder of their rollover power play from the second. Very soon after that Chelmsford took a penalty of their own early in the third and Bishop Fenwick couldn’t generate any quality chances and Chelmsford killed it off. Finally, with 3:24 left in the third, Chelmsford scored again to make it 6-1 with a nice goal from Wood assisted by Bongiorno. It was an otherwise quiet period largely highlighted by special teams to end the game.
