D3 Semifinal: Hanover Hawks Beat Scituate on a Hanna Goal

Buzzards Bay, MA– We head down to Gallo Ice Arena for a division three semi finals matchup between third ranked Hanover Hawks and the second ranked Scituate Sailors.

The first period would get underway with Hanover controlling most of the opening possession, keeping the puck down low and working the Scituate defense in the offensive zone. Most of the period saw each side playing chip and chase to gain control in the offensive zones but Hanover still looked more dangerous in each attack. Scituate was able to bounce back with a couple minutes to go with some pressure of their own but would head into the intermission tied 0-0.

The second period started with Hanover coming out and wasting no time by taking the lead on a goal from senior forward Robbie Hanna beating the goalie glove side from just inside the blue line to put Hanover up 1-0. Hanover would continue to dominate in the Scituate end with a shot from the point hitting the post halfway through the period to keep this game a one goal game. Scituate would get their chances with six minutes to go with more shots coming in high scoring areas but Hanover’s junior goalie Liam Monahan was able to clear anything in front to keep the score 1-0. Hanover would bounce back with some great counter attack rushes in the Scituate end before the period would expire with Hanover going into the third up 1-0.

The third period would start with each side again playing some chip and chase style of play, with Scituate trying to break down the Hanover forecheck early with twelve minutes to go in the third. Scituate would go up on the power play shortly after but would give Hanover a breakaway for Robbie Hanna to increase their lead but senior goalie Cole Coyne would get a piece of it to keep this game a one goal game with eight minutes to go. Each side was able to kick it up a notch with some end to end action with six minutes remaining, resulting in good chances for Scituate in the slot but missing the net wide to keep the score 1-0. Desperate times for Scituate soon after as they would send everything to the net with three minutes to go. Hanover did a great job of blocking all of the shots heading towards the net. Scituate would find it very hard to gain control of the puck in the last minute of the period and Hanover was able to deal with any pressure from the Sailors to lift themselves into the final at the TD Garden with a huge 1-0 over Scituate. Hanover will face number one seed Marlboro in the division three Final.
