Marshfield Rams Ground Hanover Hawks 2-1 in Patriot Cup

Bourne, MA – The Marshfield Rams and Hanover Hawks met at Gallo Arena on Cape Cod for the semifinals of the Patriot Cup.

The first period saw action at both ends but no scoring. Sophomore Liam Monahan stood tall in the net for Hanover as did senior Aidan Healey for Marshfield. The Rams carried an advantage in play. Freshmen Cam McGettrick and Will Doherty created quality chances. The line of Max DaSilva, Manning Morris and Nate DelPrete was dangerous for the Hawks.

The second frame saw Hanover start to gather momentum and more chances. They broke through on a tap in by junior Robbie Hannah from Christian Sacco and Daniel McDonald. The Hawks owned the game’s first lead with 22:36 remaining. Play was back and forth. With just over four minutes left, Marshfield’s Dan Kane hit a post on a point blank shot. Monahan weathered the storm to end the period and allow the Hawks to go into the third up 1-0.

The Hawks looked to be in great shape in the third and went on the power play with just under 10 minutes left. However, that’s when things started to go awry. 2006 freshman forward Will Doherty created a turnover at the blue line, won a puck race up ice and got the puck to the net. The rebound landed on the stick of Dan Kane who pumped it home. It was now a 1-1 game and Hanover was officially in trouble. Less than two minutes later, Doherty found a rebound of a Brady Clark shot and ripped it up top for the game winner with 7:43 left. Healey made some big saves, including a breakaway and the Rams took home the win. They will now play Hingham in the Cup Final on Friday.
