Dighton-Rehoboth-Seekonk Defeats Bourne 7-2 in Semis

Attleboro, MA -Tonight, Neutral Zone was able to take in one half of the South Coast Conference semifinals, with this game being between Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk Falcons facing off against the Bourne Canalmen. The barn-burner was played over three 15 minute periods, and was yet another entertaining D2 matchup.

The first period was the most quiet of the three. Both sides began the game by feeling out their opponent, looking to gain any type of edge they could. You could tell this was a playoff hockey game with neither side giving an inch in the physicality department. The referees would have none of it though, as they made plenty of calls from the get go. In the back end of the first period, the Falcons had a 5-on-3 advantage, where junior forward Devin Dailey ripped a shot from the point over the Bourne goaltender to open up the scoring, 1-0 Falcons. This is where the score would remain through the first.

In the second period, things began to snowball heavily in favor of the Falcons. This time it would be a 4-on-3 power play that led to a goal. After heavy offensive pressure from the Falcons, senior defenseman Carter Foley picked up the puck at the top of the right circle, calmly moved in and fired one home to increase the DRS lead. Shortly thereafter, DRS found themselves on a 5-on-3 advantage again. This time, it was sophomore forward Colton Nastar at the top of the crease who banged one home to put the Falcons up by three. Only two minutes after that, the slickest goal of the night was tallied. A point shot from senior defenseman Wyatt Nastar went wide and off the glass, bounced out from the other side of the net, where sophomore forward Liam Fecteau picked up the puck between his legs, and put home his team’s fourth goal.

The third period followed a very similar script as the second. Nearly as soon as the period started, DRS was back where they left off. Off their first offensive zone face off, the puck pops out to Devin Dailey in the corner, who looked out to the slot to find Colton Nastar for his second of the evening, 5-0 Falcons. Mere minutes after, Carter Foley found himself with the puck at the top of the offensive zone again, where he put one on net that was deflected home by sophomore forward Noah Bates. Three minutes after the sixth Falcons goal, Wyatt Nastar put a dribbler on net from the point that squeaked through, increasing the DRS lead to 7-0. Later on in the period, after absorbing a huge hit in the offensive zone, 8th grade forward Chris Kleuber found a loose puck in front of the net and was able to bury the first of the night for Bourne. Towards the end of the period, Bourne showed some additional get back. Freshman forward Dana Leach put a shot on net that bounced back out to the slot for a waiting 8th grade forward Matteo Scena who was able to rifle one home to cut his team’s deficit. However, this is where the game would end; a 7-2 victory for the Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk Falcons who advance to the South Coast Conference Championship game.
