Marshfield Takes Down Scituate 5-2

The Scituate Sailors visited the Marshfield Rams at Hobomok Arena in Pembroke, MA for a season opening Patriot League matchup. They played three 15 minute periods and parents and siblings were smartly spread out in the rink.

The Rams took home a convincing victory as Senior Aidan Healey got the win in the net and freshman Will Doherty added two goals and and two assists.

The first period the Rams came out with energy and Scituate was forced to take three penalties. This helped Marshfield hold momentum. With 10:48 left Doherty jumped to a loose puck in front for his first career tally. Shots were fairly even but the better chances went to Marshfield.

In the second, Marshfield took control of the game. The Sailors had some pressure on the Rams early and cashed in with a turnaround score by Cam Swan on the power play. Scituate pushed a bit but took a penalty that stopped their momentum. 2006 Doherty struck again after a great shift, burying a Brady Clark rebound with 7:59 left. Cam McGettrick wasn’t going to let his classmate get all the attention as he dragged the puck across the slot and snapped one home with 1:19 left to make it 3-1. Then with just 13.9 seconds left in the second, Doherty won an offensive zone faceoff right to Andrew Guilfoyle who fired one one, five hole for the dagger and the 4-1 lead.

The Rams hoped to cruise home but Scituate cut the lead when defenseman Troy Pratt went end to end after a great defensive play and ripped a shot top corner to cut it to 4-2. Marshfield put the fire out with 9:14 left as Doherty fed Guilfoyle for his second goal to all but seal the win. Scituate took their goalie out and just missed a few chances as they showed no quit. However, the gamed ended in a 5-2 Marshfield win. Shots were 31-17 for the game in favor of the Rams.
