Framingham Wins Another One in OT

Bourne, MA – First things first: wow…what a game. Three periods of hockey could not decide this Super 8 elimination bout between Xaverian and Framingham. The Hawks could not have asked for a better start. They came out guns blazing from the drop of the puck in the first period. Xaverian was constantly playing in Framingham’s end. They finally capitalized with a power-play goal tipped in off senior Ty Marchi’s chest from a great shot from junior defenseman Trevor Connolly with 9:14 left in the period. Xaverian built off their first goal and scored another one shortly after. Senior forward Ryan Pomposelli tapped home a rebound off the goalie’s pad off a heads up play by sophomore forward Jack Silva. They shut down the chances that Framingham was trying to create and would ride that momentum until the end of the first period.

The second period started with chances back and forth for both teams. Framingham came out and responded to the Xaverian offensive attack in the first, but they silenced the Xaverian offense in the second. Framingham got a great opportunity when they were a man up in the second and the momentum started to shift in their favor. Junior defenseman Jared Shimelman capitalized with a slap shot that beat the goalie going into the butterfly. He was set up by senior forward Will Trischitta with 12:11 left in the second. Framingham continued to attack Xaverian and capitalized with another goal late in the second period. Sophomore forward Joe Ferrante picked off a pass and created a 2-on-1 rush and placed the puck off the goalie’s pad and Shimelman tapped home his second of the night to tie the game. The second period would end 2-2 setting up a big third period.

The third period was entertaining with both teams trading chances back and forth. Framingham would strike first on a slap shot from Trischitta beating the Xaverian goalie high with 8:26 remaining in the period. Xaverian would not give in and they responded four minutes later when Pomposelli skated into the zone and tied the game for the Hawks on a beautiful self-effort. The period would end with the score 3-3 setting up for a dramatic overtime.

Overtime started off with both teams feeling each other. As it progressed both teams started to take a lot more chances with the extra ice available.
