D1/D2 South Recaps: Archbishop Williams and Bishop Feehan claim victories

Archbishop Williams slips past Wellesley

Canton, MA – The barn was packed in Canton today for the D1 South Quarterfinal game between Archbishop Williams and Wellesley. The game started out with both teams feeling each other out. Archies began to gain momentum sustaining some good zone time as the period wore on. Wellesley gained some momentum when senior captain Drew Cohen capitalized on a 1-on-1 and found twine. They built off of that momentum and finished the period with a 1-0 lead.

The Bishops came out hungry in the second period. They were looking for a response for most of the frame sustaining some nice zone time. Wellesley had their share of chances off the rush as well but struggled to keep the puck in the Bishops’ end. The Bishops capitalized on a goal with nine seconds remaining when junior forward Christian Koylion tipped a shot by junior defender Jake Lamonica from the half wall to tie the score. The goal set up a big third period ahead.

The third period started out with equal chances for both teams. The Bishops continued to establish themselves in the offensive zone, but Wellesley temporarily calmed the storm. The Bishops broke the tie about halfway through the third period. Senior forward Tommy Page dumped the puck on net and it took a weird bounce and slipped past the Wellesley netminder. This was a huge momentum boost for Archies. They rolled with a one-goal lead and rode the wave to the finish line and won 2-1. It was a fun game to watch from beginning to end.

Bishop Feehan shuts down Brookline

Canton, MA – For Game 2 on the day, we stuck around to watch Bishop Feehan skate to a 5-1 victory over Brookline at the Canton Ice House tonight. The beginning of the game started with a burst of momentum from the Brookline offense. Bishop Feehan goalie Ryan D’Amato shut the door and weathered the Brookline attack early. About halfway through the first period, Bishop Feehan’s junior forward CJ Botelho sniped one to break open the scoring. The first period would end with Bishop Feehan leading by a goal.

Brookline came out hard in the second period and created multiple chances but again, all those chances were shut down by the Feehan netminder. Feehan went back to work in the second period scoring two more goals in the frame. One came off the stick of junior Kevin Barrera and the other from senior forward Kevin Borah on the power play. Feehan did a nice job of calming the storm that Brookline was trying to stir up. Brookline, however, did answer with a goal from freshman Emmett Teahan, which created good energy going into the third period. The second stanza would end with a score of 3-1 in favor of Bishop Feehan.

The third period started off with a strong push by Bishop Feehan this time. They sustained some nice zone time and capitalized early. Barrera scored again to give the team a more comfortable cushion at 4-1. They would ride with the lead for the remainder of the third period and they added a final tally with 10 seconds remaining in the game to make it 5-1. Borah was credited with the insurance marker (his second on the night). Credit to Bishop Feehan goalie Ryan D’Amato, who stonewalled the Brookline attack in the third period and helped secure his team the victory.
